Frequently Asked Questions

My calls aren't being recorded. What's the issue?

Try the following troubleshooting tips:

  • Double-check that you are logged in to (check the top bar).
  • On Chrome, navigate to chrome://settings/content/cookies (in the address bar) and make sure "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" is set (or create an exception just for

On Firefox, go to Preferences -> Privacy & Security, and make sure that similar settings are chosen for website cookies.

  • If you have uBlock Origin, AdBlock, or a similar extension (that blocks sites from "calling home" to their home server), you should disable it for GrassrootsPB.
  • If your call tally in the white extension popup isn't updating, try hitting the refresh button in the top right corner.

If problems still persist, try e-mailing the developers. Be sure to mention which calling tool you're using (e.g. LiveVox, HubDialer, OpenVPB), what issue you're facing, and how long it's been affecting you (recently, since you signed up, etc).

Do I make calls on this website?

GrassrootsPB is not used for making calls or saving responses to phone banking calls. You should click on one of the candidates on our front page to learn how to make calls from the comfort of your home. Our website simply makes it easier to track the number of calls you've made, and has many features that intend to gamify phone banking and make it even more fun!

How do you decide which candidates/issues to feature here?

Our vetting procedure is designed to feature causes (i.e. candidates/issues) that are aligned with Bernie's platform, regardless of party affiliation. The process is roughly as follows:

  1. Has this cause been endorsed by the Our Revolution national organization? If not...
  2. Has The Political Revolution endorsed this cause by a membership vote, after vetting the race? If not...
  3. Is this cause in line with Bernie 2020's values and platform? What are this candidate's policies and endorsements, or (in the case of ballot propositions) what are this issue's details and endorsements? Who are the other candidates running, and how progressive are they? How should we assess progressiveness based on the context (e.g. state) this cause affects, and whether this is a statewide or more local race? All of this essentially boils down to judgments that we make as a team, with the final call being made by administrators.

These criteria aren't rigid, and are subject to change based on the specifics of the candidate/issue. If you disagree with the result of our vetting, or want to suggest a candidate, please contact us! Our process is by no means perfect, and we can add/remove races based on new information that we weren't aware of during vetting.

Note that candidates also currently need to use one of our supported online calling tools, as mentioned on the extension page. If they don't, we can modify our extension to support their calling tool, but this will result in some delays in featuring them on our site.

Why aren't my calls showing up on the live map?

If you're not living in any of the regions that show up on the live call map, your calls will not show up on that map. Also, if you did not provide a valid ZIP code on signup (e.g. you entered 00001), your calls will not show up (the ZIP code 00000 is interpreted as "international"). Lastly, on some services like HubDialer, we often cannot see where your calls are actually going, based on what's made visible to us.

Does this site cover all calls being made by all volunteers?

It does not. We're only covering the calls made by users who are logged into our site and have our extension installed while phone banking. If you know volunteers who might be interested in gamifying phone banking or tracking their call numbers, though, you should definitely recommend GrassrootsPB to them!

Is this website open-source?

We have a private GitHub repo. It's been kept private so that the extension-related code cannot be abused to increase your call numbers unfairly. Unfortunately, this is a flaw of using a browser extension to tally calls. However, since campaigns generally don't have a public stream of calls being made (and who made them), the extension is the only option we have.

If you're interested in contributing to our repo, email one of the developers and we'll get in touch! We can also be found in the #grassrootspb channel of the Progressive Coders Network's Slack.

Are you selling my data?

No. We are very careful to not expose personally identifiable information (e-mails, your ZIP code) to third parties. We don't plan on making a profit off of this site's usage or your data. For more details, see our privacy policy.
